Why Faucets Leak in the First Place
Most faucet leaks come down to worn internal parts, washers and O-rings that harden and crack over time, or a cartridge that’s worn out from years of use. Hard water, common throughout Massachusetts, speeds this up by leaving mineral deposits that wear down seals faster. Compression faucets (the older style with separate hot and cold handles) tend to fail from worn washers, while newer single-handle faucets more often need a cartridge replacement.
Repair or Replace? It Usually Comes Down to Age and Type
Most faucet leaks are a straightforward repair, replacing a washer, O-ring, or cartridge. Replacement makes more sense when the faucet is older, parts are no longer available for that model, or you’re already updating the fixture as part of a bigger project.
